Gourd Crafting Class - July 2

There will be two projects that are part of this class day.  The first is gourd bottle canteen making, and the second is gourd drum making.  You can choose to take just one or participate in both classes.  Please make sure you register for the classes you would like to take.  If you take both you will need to register for each one separately.

Bottle Gourd Canteen Class - July 2nd, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (Rain or Shine)
$50 per student

Students learn everything they will need to create a canteen from a  bottle gourd in this class. Participants will learn cutting, cleaning, and design patterns with templates for decorating them are provided and add a leather cord for tying to one’s belt for historical use.

All supplies are included, but participants should bring an apron and towel.

Gourd Drum Class - July 2nd, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. (Rain or Shine)
$100 per student

In this class students learn everything they will need to create a gourd drum. Cut, cleaned, prepared gourds and drumskins are provided, but participants will learn cutting, sealing, design patterns of many different kinds (with templates provided), various types of finishes, and two different ways of attaching drum skins.

All supplies are included but participants should bring an apron and towel.

Judi Fleming - Gourd Artist

Judi Fleming has been doing gourd art for nearly 30 years using this versatile vegetable.  She has taught gourd art and crafts all along the east coast, won numerous best of show awards in gourd festivals, fairs and juried art show.  She is currently the President of the North Carolina Gourd Society and 1st Vice President of the American Gourd Society as well as a member of the Southeastern Civilian Living Historians, a non-profit organization dedicated to research, education, and accurate portrayal of civilians in all eras from the 17th, 18th, 19th, and early to mid-20th century through workshops and living history events.

Tickets sold may be refunded prior to 10 business days from the ticketed event.

Exchanges of equal value may be made prior to 10 business days from the ticketed event. However, ticket availability for alternate dates is not guaranteed and is subject to a first-­come, first-­served basis.

Refunds cannot be approved after the 10 business day period.
