A conditions survey of Hart Square Village identified the cabins at greatest risk, including the Taylor Wheelwright Shop, with badly decayed logs caused by powder post beetles and rot. Threats to the nation’s largest log cabin museum are great, but you can save our cultural heritage one historic cabin at a time. We cannot allow rot and decay to destroy Hart Square Village.
The artifacts within the Taylor Wheelwright Shop were sourced from the former site of a 19th century wheelwright shop located in Lenoir, NC. Hart Square does not confine these artifacts to glass cases, nor rope off certain sections. As our guest, we want you to be fully immersed in history. When you enter this space, you feel as if a wheelwright walked out just moments prior to your arrival. This space is also used to demonstrate the craft of wooden wheel making, which keeps our traditions alive. Preserving and sharing history in this way is only possible with your support.
With a gift to Hart Square Foundation, you are not only preserving historic cabins, you are sharing traditional arts, trades, and practices of our region. You can preserve and share cultural heritage with a donation today. Thank you for your support!
